Get Racing – Wednesday Nights

If you are new to dinghy racing or have not raced at this club before and wish to have a go, come along on a Wednesday night to find out what dinghy racing on a Wednesday night is all about.

 You can:

-        observe a race from the safety boat

-        be introduced to a regular racer in a similar class boat who will be your ‘buddy’ for the night.  The regular racer will offer to launch at the same time,  sail out to the race course and provide some pre-race encouragement/support about where the course is, and the starting process. So, a friendly face that can answer those questions you may have,

-        You will able to identify yourselves by tying a red and white tag to the back of your boom (tags available on a Wednesday night)

-        join your buddies and other racers in the club bar afterwards for a chat about how things went,

New members and new racers who would like to “Get Racing”, can meet Sue or Rex on Wednesday evening from 5.30 pm in the boat park and take up any of the above options.  Email Rex Frost on This email address is being protected from spambots. In addition to this support on a Wednesday night, you can also:

  • email Rex and arrange a time to go out in a safety boat and have the opportunity to get out onto the race area in a RIB and look at the key locations such as launch/landing sites, tides, sand banks, starts, commonly used marks, etc.
  • join the Junior Race Training once a month on a Thursday night. This race will be open to junior race sailors and adult race sailors who wish to progress their sailing and racing skills, but without the pressure of having to compete in the adult series on a Wednesday night.  This will give sailors the chance to experience the racing environment but under more forgiving circumstances.  By following the same format as the Wednesday night, it is hoped that this will give an easier transition into Wednesday evening races.  These races will be:
