Volvo Feva Grand Prix & Squad Selector Junior Racing crews headed to Parkstone this weekend to compete in two days racing at the Volvo Feva Grand Prix, which is also a Feva Squad selector event. Saturday was fresh with a steady breeze of 15 knots gusting to 20. Jakson Leach and Tom Massey were the leading Exe boat overnight holding 18th position in the fleet of 40. Sunday was wet and the wind easing slightly contrary to the forecast for it to strengthen to 25 knots during the day, much to the annoyance of supporting parents who had mostly set boat rigs for heavier weather. Sandy Bailey and Jack Francis overcame a second gear failure in 2 weeks and did a great job to improve their overnight position to finish 18th overall. Fingers crossed that the boys are now clear of their run of gear failure. Jakson and Tom were disappointed to slipped back to 27th overall, with Jakson citing "Dad's boat tuning" as the cause, Dad suggesting that Jakson's sail setting was an equally likely cause, but both of them happy to accept an independent opinion that a combined crew weight in lighter conditions could be the culprit. The third Exe crew were a new all girl team of Sophie Raven and Emelie Beard. This was Sopies first major event as a helm and Emelie's second ever race since gaining her RYA 4 in September this year. They did themselves proud completing the course in every race but 1 and finishing a respectable 38th. Well done girls and best of luck for the future with your sailing partnership.
