Cruiser Weekend Racing Cruiser Sailors - how about a weekend series to finish the season? Stuart Hills has proposed a series of 5 races (3 to count) over the alternate Saturday's and Sunday's; Sat 1st Sept Sun 9th Sept Sun 23rd Sept Sat 29th Sept Sun 7th Oct Read the first race write up below... The Autumn Weekend Series got off to a great start yesterday, steady 8-10 knots of breeze, light swell and no rain.It even brightened up and got really warm for the finish. 7 Boats from across our 2 fleets made it to the line, with 2 being single handed and several with limited crews. A short beat to No 2 buoy was followed by a fetch to Teignmouth outfall buoy. The long leg back to the DZ off Budleigh proved interesting those flying spinnakers moved ahead but where struggling to hold the lay line.Forced to drop and harden up some way short of the mark they were rapidly reeled back in by those that had stuck to the lay line and 2 sails. At least one even had to put in a short tack to make the rounding, only to claim the buoy was out of position on their chart !!The last leg back to SWM was a close run thing with everybody enjoying an easy spinnaker sail in warm sunshine.Well done to Robin on Jabberwocky who sailing single handed, flew his code zero down much of the long leg and then changed over to his symmetric for the last leg - what an effort! Also to Colin and Anne on Red Fox who blitzed the fleet sailing just 2 up, and Tom & Laura in Lucina, the smallest boat who finished in 2nd.Lets hope for another great sail next Sunday.Hope to see you then.
