Sailability
Since its inception in 2007, the Exe Sailability Project has grown to be an integral part of the Club’s activities, enabling disadvantaged people access to sailing.
Over recent years, generous grants and sponsorships have funded the acquisition of two Hawk 20’ sailing boats, a twin-hulled powerability launch for wheelchair users and larger groups, and a part share in the Club’s fleet of training dinghies.
Together with an ever expanding base of over 70 regular volunteers, we are now able to resource up to 25 sessions a week.
As well as independent sailors, we also have students and residents attending from a wide range of schools, colleges and residential homes; such as Barley Close (Voyage Care), CEDA, The Deaf Academy, InFocus, Mill Water School, My-Way, South West Care Homes, Stallcombe House and Young Carers.
Sailors have the opportunity of achieving a range of Sailability certificates, with some progressing to RYA 1 & 2 qualifications.
Membership of the Club is also on offer to those who wish to take advantage of our range of other activities, including dinghy and cruiser outings.
2024 has been our busiest year to date with 523 individual sailors participating in 220 sessions.
We are greatly indebted to our volunteers, our commissioning groups, and to the Club management for their support in providing exciting activities and opportunities for all the sailors participating. Our successful teamwork has been recognised by the granting of the Kings Award for Voluntary Services in 2024.
We do appeal to any new or existing Exe Sailing Club members to join our Project where we can guarantee a rewarding experience and training.
We also welcome enquiries from new sailability sailors.
