Exe Sailing Club raises £2,110 for Exmouth RNLI!

On Saturday 22 June, Exe Sailing Club held a fundraising day in aid of our local Exmouth RNLI.
On the day we had members of the RNLI water safety team here giving general advice and showing people how to check life jackets, the RNLI pop up shop was here and members of the RNLI tour guides were also on hand.
There were a range of home made cakes available to buy and a host of activities to get involved in.
The sand ‘boat’ castle competition saw prizes being awarded across categories ranging from largest to best decorated and included best castle and best harbour. The blindfold dinghy rigging proved very entertaining and was followed by a welly wanging competition.
The local D class ILB arrived just in time to make sure that those taking part in the dinghy team racing left the shore safely. Fun was had by all albeit that trying to explain the rules and concept of the team racing with commentary may have lost something in translation. It was great to see such a range of people of all abilities taking part.
We went into the evening with the Exmouth Shantymen providing entertainment, followed by prize giving including the Spud Rowsell cup for the Cruiser RNLI race and a Grand Auction presided over by our very own Symon Garratt.
Throughout the afternoon and evening Flame Cave Pizza’s were on hand to ensure we were all well fed.
Our thanks go to all who donated money and time to the event, Exmouth Shantymen for performing free of charge and Flame Cave Pizza’s for donating a proportion of their takings.
