Join us for a fun day to raise funds for our local life boat station in celebration of the Bicentenary of the RNLI. We have a fun packed afternoon with both on and off the water events planned so read on for what’s happening and how to get involved.

Our event kicks off around 3.00pm with tea and cakes on offer whilst some of our shore based activities are taking place.

  • Bring your buckets and spades and join in building a sand ‘boat’ castle
  • Take part in team blindfold dinghy rigging to see who’s quickest (and get it’s right!)
  • Have a go at welly wanging to see how far it will go.

The RNLI pop up shop will be there for you to buy all sorts of souvenirs and the RNLI water safety team will be on hand for useful advice and an all important lifejacket inspection.

Later in the afternoon Exmouth RNLI will arrive in their D Class inshore boat and be happy to show you around and the equipment on board.

Flame Cave Pizza company will be joining us for you to buy some delicious pizza from 5.00pm.

We’ve got dinghy team racing taking place in front of the club when the tide comes in and hopefully a quick lifeboat demonstration. There’s still time to get involved in the racing which is not purely aimed at our competitive dinghy sailors.

Exmouth Shantymen will be on hand to entertain us during the evening which will also see the prize presentation, and the main event, our Grand Charity Auction. See below for how you can get involved if you can’t be there on the day.

Team Racing

We are holding a team racing event late afternoon in front of the club. We’ve had some questions as to what the event actually is and who can take part. So here’s all you need to know: Please click the link at the end and join in this fun event.

Will the event be fun?

Yes, that’s the idea.

What is team racing?

In team racing two teams of 3 boats compete over a very short course. The team with the lowest total points wins the race.

I’ve never team raced can I join in?

Whilst there are a few in the club who have team-raced in the past we want this event to be open to all. It’s a bit of fun to get as many as possible on the water.

How long are the races?

Typically the races will be about 15 minutes

Do I use my own boat?

No, the racing will take place in the club’s Quest dinghies.

Who can take part?

Any club member (or their guests) who has at some point been in a dinghy.

Won’t the top dinghy sailors at the club form a team and whop everyone?

No, to make the event as interesting as possible we will move people from team to team to keep the teams roughly equal.

What if my team breaks a rule?

There will be an on the water umpire watching for rule infringements and awarding penalties (720 turns) if a rule gets broken.

What does it cost to enter?

Entry is free but we would encourage you to make a donation to the RNLI which we can collect from you on the day.

How do I enter?

Follow this link

Food on the day

Flame Cave Pizza Company will be bringing their van along to ensure we all don’t go hungry on the day. They can easily cater for vegetarian and vegan on the day.

If you require gluten free we will need you to order in advance. Please send a email with your choice of Gluten Free Pizza so that we can make arrangements for your order.
