New Additions to the Sailability Fleet

Our 2 Hawks came off the water at the end of September but for the first time this does not mean the end of Sailability sailing as we now have the 2 Hansa 303 boats which can be used all year round.

We have been running a series of sessions throughout October to train volunteers in the operation of the Hansas and how to provide effective safety boat cover. At the same time some of our sailors have had the opportunity to sail the Hansas accompanied by a trained volunteer. This week an important milestone was reached when 2 of them went solo and for the first time enjoyed the freedom and independence of sailing single handed.

Julie (yellow Hansa) and Izzy (blue Hansa) joined Sailability a few years ago and have since become club members and this year passed their RYA level 2 certificate in the Hawk along with Becky and Pauline who are also club members. They have all progressed from being Sailability sailors to become volunteers which enables them to participate more fully in Sailability and other club activities and inspire others to follow the same course.

Congratulations to all of them as they are living proof of what Sailability is all about and why so many club members give up so much of their time to make it happen. And a special mention to the Exeter Chiefs Foundation whose generosity enabled us to buy the Hansas.
