RYA Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore Theory
AIM
Advanced training for more experienced skippers building on the Day Skipper course. Ideal for candidates for the Coastal Skipper practical course & Yachtmaster Offshore exam. Some revision of the Day Skipper shorebased course plus more advanced skills in offshore & coastal navigation by day & night, pilotage & meteorology
CONTENT
This course will take your theory knowledge to the standard required for the Yachtmaster Coastal and Yachtmaster Offshore practical exams, concentrating on advanced navigation and meteorology skills. Including position fixing, course shaping and plotting, tidal knowledge, use of almanacs and admiralty publications, electronic position finding equipment, taking and interpreting forecasts, plotting weather systems, weather predictions using a barometer.
DURATION
The Jan/Feb/March 2025 course is taught over Saturday daytime and Tuesday evenings with three exam papers. Specific dates can be found HERE.
A minimum of 40 hours plus exam time
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
Have a level of knowledge to at least to Day Skipper Theory
MINIMUM AGE
Minimum age: 16 yrs

Cost: £350 for members, £400 for non-members (2025 prices)

Dividers, Portland Plotter, (can be purchased from the Club)
