Dinghy Cruising
Dinghy and Hawk Weekend Cruises
These organised group trips exploring both sea and river venues offer opportunities for dinghy sailors to embark on weekend outings, under the watchful eye of a safety boat, in the company of other dinghies and, occasionally, the Exe SC Hawk 20, ‘No Execuse’. The cruises are programmed into the club calendar and are run in accordance with the Exe SC Dinghy Cruising Procedures . Each outing will commence with a briefing led by the appointed group leader for the day. Members wishing to take part in these cruises must complete an entry form . This is only required once to enter for all cruises for the season.
Factored into the programme are monthly Go Sailing events for shorter cruises of no longer than 2 hours which may appeal more to single handed sailors and novices.
A weekly group email, sent to all those who have completed an entry form, will confirm the destination and weather forecast, and, subject to its availability, will include an invitation for anyone wishing to join the Hawk. The Club day boat, used mainly during the week and occasional weekends for sailability outings (for sailors with a range of disabilities), can take up to six sailors comfortably. Applications will be strictly on a first come, first served booking basis, with a preference being given to new and less frequent joiners. There is a small fee of £10 a head for those sailing in No Execuse. Club dinghies are also available for hire; for these outings, please book .
Dinghy Weekday Cruises
Previously known as the Tuesday Morning Silver Dinghy outings, these cruises now take place any time during the week when suitable weather and tidal conditions permit.
Please note that the weekday cruises are informal and do not have safety boat cover.
A weekly email is sent to group members with suggested launching times, together with forecast and state of tide and possible destinations.
Safety and Insurance
Each outing will commence with a briefing meeting lead by the appointed group leader for the day. It is important to note that your eligibility to join these outings will be dependent on your perceived degree of competence vis-a-vis the prevailing weather conditions.
Dinghy owners are responsible for their own insurance, safety and well being.
