RS 200
The RS200 is a perfect double-handed dinghy for everyone from families to competitive racers. Fleet numbers are increasing steadily at Exe SC with more juniors and youth sailors joining the fleet in the last couple of years. We regularly have four to five RS200s racing in the handicap fleet in the summer and always welcome newcomers.
The RS200 offers a great option for moderate weight sailors in the 120-140kg combined weight range to sail and race competitively together, covering a wide range of partnerships from parent/child, to couples, young sailors and friends.
It is a one design boat which appeals to many, as you can test your skills against other sailors in equal kit. However, although all the kit is the same, the rake and spreaders are fully adjustable so, for those who do like to tweak with rig set up, there is ample opportunity.
Another benefit of a one design class is that you can join the fleet with an older boat knowing that you have the same kit as everyone else, – no updated designs of hull shape, or mast materials etc. In the last 10 years, there have been a few small updates such as some changes to the deck layout and a change in mainsail material to give the boat a refresh.
The RS200 was launched in 1995 and nearly 30 years later, the class remains hugely popular. It has a great following on the RS Racing Circuit and Exe SC has hosted various events including RS 200 Open Meetings and the highly successful RS200 National Championships in 2021.
We always welcome new RS200 sailors to the fleet and current members are always happy to help and share advice.
